| MOBILE PHONE THEFT |
If you own or use a mobile phone ensure that you have recorded the phones serial or EMEI number. You can get this from under the battery on most phones or alternatively key in *#06# on the phone and the serial IMEI number will appear on the screen.
If the phone is stolen or lost give these details to the Police and Phone Service Provider. The Service Provider can now block the use of that phone immediately and through a shared database that phone will be blocked on all the other providers rendering it useless to the thief.
Hopefully in time less phones will be stolen as criminals realise that they are of no value once blocked. |
| CREDIT CARD SLIPS |
| If you use a credit or debit card as payment for goods, particularly at petrol filling stations. Make sure you dispose of the receipt carefully. Criminals are obtaining these receipts and making use of the information they contain to obtain goods and services. |

| Laptop Thefts - Beware! |
Do you own a laptop computer and use it regularly when you are travelling around the country?
When you stop for a break at a motorway service station or visit the pub after work do you leave it in the footwell or try and hide it under a coat on the backseat?
Teams have been targeting business users, even watching drivers park up and place the laptop in the boot before leaving the vehicle and taking a break. Knowing that there is a laptop in the boot makes the reward worth the effort to force entry. Other methods have involved smashing a rear window and pulling forward the folding rear seat to gain access to the boot.
Whenever you stop, even for a short time, always keep your laptop with you and dont leave any valuables on display in your vehicle. |
